July marked my first “work-aversary” at Bottom Line, and I have learned A LOT in just 12 months. Working in the ever-evolving world of social media, you kind of have no choice but to commit to the “learn as you go” mentality so, I thought I’d share a little bit of what I’ve picked up along the way.
I never knew Facebook could be so complicated: If you don’t know what a “Business Manager” is, just know that I envy you.
I have learned a lot about our clients and their industries: Because to write hundreds of captions for them, you have to KNOW them and their business, and let me tell you, we have some pretty cool clients.
No day is ever the same: That to-do list I write every day often goes out the window by 10 AM.
Social media is constantly evolving: I have never been so in-tune with Tik Tok trends, the Instagram algorithm, or whether or not Facebook Stories are going away. Okay, maybe that is a little bit of a lie, I am a Gen-Z, after all.
I would now consider myself an expert multi-tasker: Creating a post, launching an ad, and creating a Canva graphic all in 30 mins- no problem!
Scheduling tools are my best friend: The Bottom Line social media team churns out a lot of content daily, and we couldn’t do it without the tools we use to plan our content in advance- I’m looking at you, Creator Studio.
Teamwork and communication are key: When there’s a new Instagram update or Facebook Ads releases a new tool, you can bet our team is working overtime to help each other out.
There is no “one-size fits all” social media strategy: Our clients represent many different regions and industries and what works for one, might not work for another, and that’s the beauty of social media!
I now have a lot of empathy for Customer Service Representatives: Facebook messages can get ugly, y’all!
I have learned about more than just social media: Collaborating with our Digital, Video, and Traditional Media teams has taught me more about the marketing industry as a whole than my college textbooks ever did (but don’t tell that to my parents).
Yes, your phone is listening to you: Those earrings you bought off an Instagram ad 2 weeks ago, that wasn’t fate… that’s all I’ll say for now.
Lastly, working in social media is FUN!: Working with influencers, creating engaging content, brainstorming social media contest ideas, and contributing to our clients’ success could never be boring!
Social media isn’t going away any time soon so, here’s to continuing to learn as I go into year 2!
