The Power of Positivity

July 17, 2020

When I first started my career in digital marketing, I didn’t know what a Google ad was.

I didn’t know how to read Google Analytics.

I barely knew how to log into my email correctly.

However, the one thing I did know was that in order to get through my first few years as a green digital strategist, I had to smile.

I knew I had to come to work every day with the eagerness to learn. I had to get to know my coworkers, be a reliable team player, and radiate positivity.

Flashforward 5 years later, and I am happy to say that positivity has become the most important skill in my toolbox. I can confidently say that I do not walk into our office daily without a grin, lunch requests, and some silly story about my latest Orange Theory workout.

I’ve learned that it’s not the years of experience, the video trainings, or the classes that help you become good at your job. Although these things help, I’ve come to find out that it’s your overall mindset that dictates whether or not you will have a successful day, a successful year, or a successful life.

I’ve learned that when it comes to work, your job should be a place of peace, where you can focus on getting things done, connecting with others, and practicing your passion. It should be your second home. With the power of positive thinking, we have the ability to help ourselves become more productive, grateful, and happier with each passing day.

However, I get it. Some can find it very difficult to leave their personal problems at the door. We all go through unusual circumstances…even before this pandemic! Sure, I can let the morning traffic upset me, or I can let a silly personal matter get to my head. Yes, I can come to work each day groaning and complaining about my life…or I can choose to look on the bright side.

I can choose to welcome all my coworkers with a big smile and a “Good Morning!” I can choose to help make coffee, take out the trash, or clean that dang conference room table that always has fingerprints (trust us, we’ve tried everything!) I can choose to engage with our clients, or joke around with my fellow digital team (sorry for my constant obsession with pugs, Big Macs, and True Crime podcasts!)

I can choose to make my surroundings a better place…or not.

BUT, why would you ever choose not to?! We design our own lives, and I don’t know about you, but I choose to exude happiness. Therefore, I have the power to choose how I feel and how I act, and in order to construct the life I want, I will always choose positivity no matter what.

The only thing I can control and the only thing we can control is our reaction to everything that is happening around us. If we approach life with a positive attitude, we have the power to change our current situation with a simple, bright smile…and maybe some French fries.

And that’s the Bottom Line!
