Will Social Media Ever Rule The World?

You wake up in the morning, name the first three things you do. Personally, I check my texts, maybe my email, and then ALL of my social media platforms. What were my friends doing after I went to bed last night? What did that influencer I follow have for breakfast? Did my sister really go to the gym at 6am? All of these questions can be answered with a quick peek on social.

It turns out, it isn’t just me. According to a study from IDC research, 80% of smartphone users check their phone within the first 15 minutes of waking up. Another study claims people spend more time on social media each day than they do on eating, drinking, and socializing combined. These two studies alone seem to validate the proposed question.

You don’t agree with me? Okay, consider this.

You have been searching for a new job in your city over the last few weeks. The perfect one finds you! How? LinkedIn, of course.

Your best friend from middle school, you have lost touch with, is engaged! How did you hear about it? The ring was front and center on your Instagram feed!

You are moving into your new apartment in just a few weeks and have no idea how to start decorating! Finding the perfect vibe is harder than you expected. Where did you find all of your inspiration? It has to be Pinterest.

You finally decide to replace your car and begin the search for a new one. Well, Facebook will show you exactly what you want, before you even know that’s what you want.

You are ready to go to bed and read some headlines to see what you may have missed today. Where are your top stories coming from? Snapchat’s Discover page has got you covered.

It could be possible that you just weren’t aware how heavily you, and the rest of us, rely on social media throughout our daily lives. After reading this blog, there is no way you can claim that social media does not already rule the world. But hey, still don’t believe me? Go a day without it… you’ll quickly come around.
